18th COMMONWEALTH FORESTRY CONFERENCE

1) Presentation of the event

The Commonwealth Forestry Congress (CFC) 2010 which will be held between June 28 -July 2, 2010 in Edinburgh, UK will be a grand event that will chart the course of the significance of commonwealth forests for centuries ahead. The conference comes up once in 5 years and this upcoming one will act as a driver and catalyst to the ongoing effort to influence the thinking of political leaders and civil society on the importance of understanding the key role that forests can make to tackling climate change.


2) IFSA's Role

IFSA’s contribution will be geared towards enhancing the achievement of the third objective of CFC2010 – “Recognise and promote the role of the Commonwealth’s next generation of people who will be driving forward and delivering change in the future”. A keynote presentation will be presented during the plenary session by the CFA-IFSA Liaison Officer and a forest education forum will be subsequently held. The designated title of the presentation will be "Forestry Students' Perspectives on the Past, Present and Future of Commonwealth's Forests".


3) Your participation

Direct contributions of students during the forum is greatly solicited. Also, you are encouraged to participate in the ongoing survey. Be sure to take advantage of the reduced earlybird registration fee for students. Remember, your participation will go a long way in promoting the interest of global forestry students.


4) Funding Opportunities

IFSA will be providing a stipend of €300 each for 2 students to offset some of the cost of participation. Detailed information on how to apply for this provision will be sent out latest by March 31st, 2010. Applicants are advised to also explore other funding opportunities that might be available to them as well.
