3rd ASIA REGIONAL MEETING 2012 IN INDONESIA

The third Asia Regional Meeting will be organized by IFSA LC Universitas Gadjah Mada and held in Indonesia. It will be an intensive full seven days program. This Asia Regional Meeting will provides an opportunity for 60 forestry students' all around Asia to broaden, enrich, and share new knowledge and experience; exchange and create breakthroughs; and strengthen bonds between Asia students.

The theme for the third ARM is “Enhancing Management Effectiveness Protection Area through the Role of Stakeholder”. We would like to inform how the Protection area is managed in Indonesia and also broaden knowledge about the opportunities of collaborative management of protection areas through the role of stakeholders.

This meeting will be held on May, 21-27 2012. During 7 days of meeting, the participants will visit various place in Indonesia that are: D.I.Yogyakarta, Kebumen (Central Java), and Kamojang (West Java). They will visit conservation area in Indonesia and of course famous tourism spot in Indonesia like Prambanan Temple.

THEME: Forests in a green economy: contribution and the youth position

Forests provide a variety of goods and services that are key assets in a green economy. Mainstreaming forest values in national policy making decisions can help transform national economic policies towards a green economy in the context of job creation, poverty eradication and sustainable development.

To maximize the contribution of forests there is a need to make use of existing opportunities and to address gaps in areas such as valuation of forest goods and services and the inclusion of young foresters, and upcoming generation of forest professionals in the process.

The local council of the International Forestry Students Association (IFSA), Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development is organising a three-day conference. The conference will bring together students from all around Europe and diverse audience of high level speakers to Identify the role of young forest professionals and forestry students in green economy.

Venue: Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Eberswalde, Germany.

Dear fellow IFSA people, LC Tharandt happily invites you to

IGEX - International Geological Expedition:

Soil is the elixir of our life on earth. The complexity of soil processes is incredibly fascinating but it keeps challenging us throughout our studies and even after.

Together with experienced scientists and experts, we want to take you on a cave expedition into the heart of Germany to discover soil processes with all senses.

Crawling through stalactite caves, discovering fossils in the shell lime and analyzing soil profiles in the deep Thuringian Forest we want to get a deeper understanding of soil and its processes.

IFSA LC Tharandt invites everyone that is interested to spend a beautiful summer weekend in Effelder-Rauenstein (Thuringia, Germany). We are going to stay in wooden cabins and all our activities will be within walk distance. Besides achieving loads of knowledge, we want to barbecue a boar and spend some nice International evenings with you and moreover, we want to take you placer mining!

Please notice, that the caves we go into will be wet and cold (but stunning!!!) We will allocate you protective clothing but you should bring rubber boots

19th European Foresters' Orienteering Championships (19th EFOL)

EFOL is the international organisation responsible for the European Foresters' Orienteering Championships. The initiative to form the EFOL came from the Swedish forester Leif Strömquist. He wanted to create a summer festival for European foresters. His idea was to set up something on similar lines to the winter gathering of European foresters, EFNS (same same as EFOL but nordic skiing instead of orienteering), which was started in Germany in 1969.

EFOL is a great opportunity for forestry students who enjoy outdoor sports (and especially orienteering of course) to meet forestry professionals from all over Europe and to learn something about forestry in the host country (this year is Lithuania, 2013 will be Poland, etc.).

40th International Forestry Students’ Symposium (IFSS) in Turkey

Dear forestry students, IFSA Alumni, dear enamored of forest;

I would like to welcome you to attend 40th International Forestry Students’ Symposium (IFSS) in name of whole Organizing Committee (OC) with my warmest heart.

This year’s IFSS will take place from 1^stto 15^th of August in Northern Turkey. IFSS is the biggest forestry students’ event in worldwide. During these 15 days you will get chance to know Turkish Forestry and it’s feature, try samples from delicious and unique Turkish Cuisine, meet with tens of new IFSA friends from many different countries, attend and take part in 23^rd General Assembly of IFSA, have armfuls of fun and more while we will be visiting 7 different cities’ forests in Black Sea Region and 6 different Forestry Faculties.

International scientific camp for students of forestry

ForseenPOMERANIA 2012

Poznań University of Life Sciences would like to invite students from all over the world to participate in international scientific camp supporting completing of ForseenPOMERANIA project, supported by Interreg IVA. The camp will take place in Drawno Forest District (north-west Poland).

Aim: Participation in project: “Development of trans-border decision support system for remote and model assessment of forest dendromass in Pomerania Region”.

For who: The participants of the scientific camp can be forestry students or other faculties that are interested in research carried out in polish forests.

Range of the works: trees measurements and biomass estimation on the sample plots of Scots Pine stands (Pinus sylvestris L.) using the new technologies such as GIS, GPS measurements, terrestrial laser scanning, hemispherical photography etc.. Possible tree cutting with a chain saw under instructor supervision.

The place: Drawno situated is on the Drawskie Lakeland – in the heart of Drawska Forest – the northern-west part of Poland. Geographic coordinates: 53°13'11"N, 15°45'32"E. The nearest places: Choszczno (railway station) – 24 km, Szczecin (airport) – 100 km, Poznań (airport) – 170 km, Berlin (airport) – 230 km.

Dates: there are four terms of the camp: 13-19 August 2012 (7 days), 20-26 August 2012 (7 days), 27 August – 02 September 2012 (7 days) and 03-09 September 2012.

Accommodation and meals: the organizers provide free accommodation and free half board which consists of breakfasts and dinners.

Costs: the participation in the camp is free, participants need to take care about the travel costs and insurance. The organizers don’t refund travel costs of participants, except provide of transportation from Choszczno and Poznań (upon earlier agreement).

Insurance: every participant is obliged to have valid health insurance that is valid in Poland for all stay period during the camp. The Organizers don’t refund costs of this insurance.

Attractions: evening meetings (bonfire) with participants from various countries, visiting Drawieński National Park, attractive neighborhood with beauties of polish nature: rivers, lakes and forests; canoeing and workshops (especially GIS workshops).

International Forestry Graduate Students’ Conference 2012

The Faculty of Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia, in collaboration with the Academy of Science Malaysia, is organizing an International Forestry Graduate Students’ Conference 2012 (FORGRAD 2012), in Kuala Lumpur, from 21-26 October 2012.

The two-day conference will include a keynote address by a prominent forester, plenary sessions, oral paper and poster presentations and meetings. The registration fee is RM 300.00 for local students or USD 150.00 for foreign students which will cover the proceedings, lunch and refreshments throughout the conference session.

On behalf of the Technical Committee of the Conference, we are pleased to invite all graduate students from your institution/ organization who are interested to participate in this conference. The conference theme covers all forestry related research work in four major areas, which are, Forest Biology, Forest Management, Wood Technology and Forest Products, and Parks and Recreation.

Call for papers

An Abstract for oral or poster presentation of about 200 words is required. The abstract should be in MS Word, Arial, font 12 and 1.5 line spacing. Keywords (maximum 5) should follow after the abstract. The Paper and Abstract titles must be in Arial, font 14, bold, centred aligned followed by the author(s)’ name(s), affiliation and email address of corresponding author.

Abstract submission can be made via email to technical.forgrad2012@gmail.com on or before 23 April 2012. Abstract should be proof-read and approved by the student(s)’ supervisor(s) before submission.

Notification of acceptance: 21 May 2012
Full paper submission: 16 July 2012

Guidelines for full paper submission will be provided upon notification of acceptance.
