At IFSS 2016 in Austria and Germany, our membership established a new sub-commission of Cultural Competencies. Commissions, including Sub-Commissions, are executive bodies of IFSA established by the General Assembly to achieve tasks under a particular theme. As IFSA continues to grow and include members with diverse backgrounds and experiences, the General Assembly felt we needed to better equip members to increase intercultural understanding within IFSA and created this sub-commission to fulfill that goal.

Here is your chance to get involved! We are now looking for our first ever Head of Cultural Competencies Sub-commission.

The role

The Cultural Competencies Sub-Commission Head will be working with his/her commissioners to provide opportunities for IFSA members to improve intercultural understanding, under the direct supervision of the Professional Development Commission head until July 2017.

Tasks of the Head of Cultural Competencies Sub-Commission:

  • Oversee the Cultural Competencies Sub-Commission (and its commissioners) and report to  the Professional Development Commission Head and Council member;

  • Work with IFSA Local Committees to develop the skills needed to improve knowledge of different cultural practices and world views;

  • Identify ways to further develop positive attitudes towards cultural differences and identified sensitivities;

  • Aid IFSA members in developing skills for communication and interaction across cultures;

  • Work with heads of delegations to identify cultural sensitivities for upcoming events and aid delegates in appropriately managing them;

  • Create the template for an intercultural understanding strategy that reviews and identifies opportunities for positive development at IFSA meetings (IFSS, regional, interim, etc.)

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have a high level of self-motivation and strong team building skills;

  • Have excellent and effective communication skills;

  • Be a current Ordinary IFSA Member or have graduated from an LC within one year;

  • Preferably, have knowledge and experience in providing  intercultural understanding training;

  • Open minded, willing to challenge
