The IFSA Liaison Officer to the Commonwealth Forestry Association (LO CFA) position is now open to those of you who are looking for more ways to get involved within IFSA.
A Liaison Officer (LO) is the main communication focal point between IFSA and one of its professional partners. He/she is elected by the General Assembly (or in special cases like this one, by the Council in consultation with the Direction). An LO will oversee all activities that are jointly undertaken by IFSA and the partner organization and work closely with the president to strengthen the partnership.
The Commonwealth Forestry Association (CFA) is one of IFSA’s professional partners and is highly valued for its interest in increasing youth engagement in Forestry in the Commonwealth Nations. The CFA is the world’s longest established international forestry organisation, tracing its history back to 1921. Today it unites 1200 members in 78 Commonwealth of Nations and other countries in an international network that provides professional support to its members and forms a key element of civil society.
The CFA seeks to promote the conservation and sustainable management of the world’s forests and the contribution they make to peoples’ livelihoods. This mission supports the Millennium Development Goals, in particular relating to the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger through the contribution of forests to livelihoods, and to the fundamental role that forests play in environmental stability.
In 2014, IFSA signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CFA, under the Liaison Officer Joanna Li Yung Lung. This year, IFSA is hoping to further coordinate all its partnership activities in a more strategic approach. The new LO CFA will work proactively and efficiently with the president and CFA focal point, communicate professionally and must be continuously dedicated to work independently.
The LOs have the following main tasks:
- Maintaining regular contact with both the IFSA President and the Partner organization
- Working with both parties to find suitable arrangements for collaborative activities
- Raising awareness of one organization to the other
- Being proactive in proposing creative ways to strengthen the partnership
- Ensuring an efficient changeover to the next LO and providing support at least until the end of the calendar year.
By applying to this position, you could broaden your horizons, expand your network, and learn about the functioning of international organizations in general. You would be part of the team of IFSA Officials until the next General Assembly (August 2016), hence getting to learn about online teamwork in an international context. Overall, it is a real chance to develop many useful skills.
